Everyone knows that exercise and a well-balanced diet can slow the effects of aging but that’s only part of the story. The “Real Age” concept is a scientific way of calculating a number that reflects your overall state of health rather than your calendar age.

Example: A 50-year-old could have the arteries and immune system of a typical 75-year-old.  Or 80-year-old who correctly cares for his/her health might have the body of a distinctive 65-year-old.

What’s new:

Our scientific group has observed more than 33,000 medical researchers to conclude how lifestyle choices affect old. Here are the latest findings

Use nine-inch plates

Real Age reduction: 3.1 years

How it helps:

The French, despite their traditional, high-fat diet, get heart disease much less often than Americans. Researchers before attributed this completely to their high red wine consumption.

New finding: Food portion sizes in France are about half the size of those in America. Simply 6% of mature peoples in France are overweight, when compared with 18% in US. How do French do it? They make use of 9 inch plates than the 11- or 13-inch plates usual in the US.

My advice: Moreover using a nine-inch plate, leave space in between the various foods eats gradually and discontinues consuming as soon as you feel full.

Eat fiber early in the day

Real Age reduction: 0.6 years.

How it helps: Plant foods are good for you, in part, because of their high fiber content. People who get 25 grams (g) of fiber daily have a Real Age that’s up to three years younger than those who get the national average of 12 g daily.

New finding: Consuming fiber early in the day is mostly helpful because it stops spikes in blood sugar (glucose) that can harm arteries and raise the danger for fatty collection and heart disease.

My advice: Eat fiber at breakfast to slow the rate at which the stomach empties. It increases satiety, so you’re less probable to snack and get extreme calories late in the day.

Consume food rich in flavonoid

Real Age reduction: 3 2 years.

How it helps: Flavonoids are plant chemicals that inhibit the effects of free radicals molecules in the body that damage cells in the arteries, brain and immune system.

New finding: People who drink large amounts of green tea, which is rich in flavonoids, have lower rates of breast and prostate cancer. Other studies have linked green tea to reduced risk for heart disease.

My advice: Get 31 mg of flavonoids daily. Finest diet sources: Green tea, broccoli and strawberries.

Mix vitamins E and C

Real Age reduction: Up to 1 year.

How it helps: Vitamins C and E are antioxidants that prevent cell damage from free radicals reduce cancer risk and maintain the elasticity of arteries. Taken alone, however, each has very limited benefit in prolonging life.

New finding: Vitamins C and E are much more powerful when taken in combination. That’s because every vitamin defends various parts of cells vitamin C defends the watery parts and vitamin E the fatty parts.

My advice: Take 400 mg of vitamin C three times daily and 400 international units (IU) of vitamin E daily.

Laugh more

Real Age reduction: 1.7 to 8 years

How it helps: Laughing reduces stress and people who are calmer have lower levels of heart disease and more robust immune systems, which can lower cancer risks.
